And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
This is sort of misrepresentative. I've got over 50 of all ages around here - some of my youngsters from 20 years ago look like adults now, some of the adolescent 6 inch ones spring up to middle age in just 10 years. One senior is hanging on after 20 years of losing major arms and top to wind. It seems to depend on (surprise!) where they are in relation to other plants, available nutrients, available water, etc. Nothing is ever as simple as these (looks like a) national park signs.
Some years ago I planted an 18-inch saguaro in my then front yard. I'm pleased to see from google street view it's now about 7 feet tall. Not quite old enough to start flowering yet. I also noticed a rookie mistake, I planted it a little too close to the walkway. At the time it seemed fine, but now I see it should have been another foot farther away. Saguaros planted in people's yards getting regular drip irrigation, grow tall and fat.
That and all sorts of critters in holes all over when they get a few arms.
