  1. The Original Pioneer Steak House was part of the Elwell Hotel, a downtown Las Vegas property built in 1946 by a local family with deep roots in the area. In 1965, the Pioneer Club took over the hotel and gave it a Western makeover to match its cowboy-themed branding and the famous Vegas Vic sign nearby. The hotel later became the Golden Hotel before being demolished in 1984 by the Golden Nugget to make room for a parking garage, quietly closing the book on a small but colorful piece of Fremont Street history.
