  1. Saw a video on the problems they had with the gun. Like the smoke coating the windshield so the pilots couldn't see. So they added windshield wipers. Other problems they had with the plane in the beginning. Good vid if you can find it.

Like how they solved the gun gas stalling the engine problem by hooking up the ignitors to the gun switch.

no A-10 piece yet, soon probably as he is recently got going, does an outstanding job on statistics and spec's. has a great narrative style, has the most enjoyable aerospace documentary style around.

    4. Major General Rusty Gideon explained to a crowded room of us young officers about the time many years back when the gun smoke stalled his A-10 engines during a flight test. He had to bail out, came down OK, and then hit his helmet on a rock, which was possibly when he broke his neck, thankfully not fatally. He pointed out that some engineer somewhere knew the smoke would foul the engines, but the problem wasn't reported widely and the fix took a while. An airplane and a broken neck could have been saved.

    5. I'm not an aircraft guy, but had a best friend (deceased) who was best friends in high school and sailing buddy with the engineer who solved the problem
with the engines. I don't think smoke was the major problem with the engines,
but was the harmonic vibrations interference with airflow caused by the
gun causing starvation to the engines. I think his name was Ferndorf( or something like that) and he got a congressional or presidential medal for
this work. Anyone have any more information on this?
