And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
These were MEN. The largest tree I ever felled here in the Midwest is about the size of the one on the right. The daunting challenge of getting a 10' diameter tree down is staggering. The thought of doing it with double bladed axes and a two man saw is almost beyond comprehension. I say, "Well done" to our ancestors who accomplished this feat. Seeing trees cut down saddens me, especially ones that take a long time to grow.
