  2. The Merlin engined Seafires had the Merlin 45 (1415hp) or 55M (1585hp) with single stage two speed superchargers. The Merlin only produced over 2,000hp in two stage two speed supercharged, water-injected versions (Packard V-1650-9) that arrived late in the war when jets started their ascendance.

  3. Too delicate to be suitable for carrier operations (as the accident statistics show) but a successful design with good handling characteristics.
