And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I went to High School back in the 70's with this girl whose daddy bought her a bright yellow Jaguar E type to drive back and forth to school. She thought she was better than everyone and I was pretty sure she was right!
Me too. Daddy bought a new Jag every year. For her sweet 16, she got a one year old Type E. She crashed it within a few months So she got daddy's car which was a few months old.
She was good looking, but so stuck up she was ugly.
Nope, has 46k on it and it is the improved 2005 4.2 liter. Ford finally fixed the problems and sales fell like a rock. Bought it new in 2006 for 25% off. Other than the fuel pump going tits up, its been a joy to drive. It was mostly gone by 2007 and Jag announced the new Camry styled models and my trade in value fell $10k in a week. Still waiting for it to stop depreciating.
It's still the prettiest car I've owned. I once took it to work in Chicago and a street walker came out from a bodega and rubbed herself all over the car while I was waiting at a light. Her Pimp came out yelling at me that I owned him money for the luscious wax job. I pointed my Gold Cup at him and politely drove off. Didn't drive it back to Chicago ever again.
I had one of those. Got it running and boy, did it handle but it needed a new interior which I couldn't afford at the time. I passed it on. It's one of the two or three cars I'd love to have if it was in new condition.
When my 30-year career USAF father and our family was stationed in Tokyo, Japan in the last 1950's, he ordered a Jag sedan that was shipped to him there. It was then shipped to Syracuse, NY, where he was next stationed and on to Colorado Springs for this last assignment before retiring. That beautiful car was one of his all-time favorites.
In 1971 my grandfather bought my grandmother a new XKE Coupe. Two months into it she came to a stop and hit the accelerator instead of the brake and launched it into a gas station across the street. She was back in a Cadillac immediately.
I was wondering when Lucas electrics would emerge in the discussion. Life is too short to spend time sorting all the ways that Lucas can foul up electrics.
Lucas electrics are very reliable, but they do have one major fault. They often, and without warning, run out of wiring harness smoke. Check on line you can order Lucas wiring harness smoke, simple installation. Problem solved.
Brilliant! I spent 45 years as an electrical engineer. The first thing they tell you is that it works better if you plug it in. The second is that it works better if you turn it on. The third is that once the magic smoke has been released, don’t expect it to work anymore. Magic smoke refills are a great idea!
Now, now. Lucas is a storied company with a history of innovation. For instance, fluid filled gauges (when it's raining). And the three position headlight switch - dim, flicker and off - should not be overlooked!
70 years old and the styling is still attractive. It won 20 British Touring Car Championship races in a row and was only beaten when someone imported a Ford Galaxie Thunderbolt (a dragster special with aluminium doors and fenders and a 427cubic inch V8) to compete against it. Al_in_Ottawa
yeah. but if you want a steady ride that works, drop a small block ford engine in it and swap out as many of the brit electrics as you can. you used to see a few of them back in the late 1960's and early 1970's in southern ca and a few in Texas
Beacham in New Zealand will take your Mk2 (or E-type) and install a new Jaguar V8 and airconditioning, open your cheque book. You can also get an electronic dash board, but that would ruin it for me. Al_in_Ottawa
Preferred car for robbing banks

Hi Spin, have you replaced the cam chain and tensioners? It's a known weak point of the Jag V8.

Jaguar - The epitome of English blacksmithery.

ReplyDeleteWhy do the British like warm beer? Because all of their refrigerators are made by Lucas.
