And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Theodore Roosevelt 150th anniversary Winchester 1895 in .405 Winchester
I remember when these were produced and sold fifteen years ago. They weren't cheap, but they were reasonable. Hornady started making ammunition at the same time, with a picture of Teddy on the box with his Model 1895 'Big Medicine' rifle and his trophy rhino, I think it was.
I would imagine most people that bought them put them away as investments and to take them out of the safe occasionally to admire them. Most of them had some pretty gorgeous wood. The rifle had an internal box magazine, not a tubular one, which allowed for a groovy Schnable forend.
The .405 Winchester / 10.45x65mmR (.405 WCF) is a rimmed centerfire rifle cartridge introduced in 1904 for the Winchester 1895 lever-action rifle. It remains to this day one of the most powerful rimmed cartridges designed specifically for lever-action rifles...
That is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was those are maggots squirming around. It also looks printed not etched. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat's a WOW gun, but I'll stick with a Savage 99 in 308.
ReplyDeleteSo what? Who cares?

The Winchester 1895 was a slick rifle.
This is 30-06, right?
