Classic Cocktail

 



No single cocktail is as iconic, as beloved, or as discussed and fought-over as the Old-Fashioned. Its formula is simple: just whiskey, bitters, sugar, and ice. But how you combine those ingredients—in what proportion, using which brands, and with what kind of garnish—is the subject of much impassioned debate.

  1. I like them but only have one rarely. Too much simple syrup for my taste. I usually stick to a bourbon on the rocks.

  2. I have trouble accepting the premise that a concoction meant to hide the taste and evil effects of rotgut whiskey should be admired.

    Sticky sweet crap, I loathe the old fashioned, the Manhattan and all of them.

    The world is full of fine wines and excellent beers that do not need to be tarted up.

  3. After 50 years of drinking (virtually every day), I quit cold turkey about 14 years ago. Besides quit smoking 40 years ago, quit drinking was #2 on the "Best Things of My Life" actions.
