The Manton Apple Festival was this morning up in the tiny mountain town of Manton

The fair is this time every year.  We got there ten minutes before opening, and there were already a bunch of people and lots of kids.

The local community bell.  Every little burg up here has one.

Lemurians made that honey.

There was live music.  In this case the B String Band and Mom,   A home schooled family of nine kids, with their own family band.  Country, Gospel and Blue Grass, and they were not too bad at all.  I found myself singing along, to the huge embarrassment of Mrs. CW and the Icelandic Daughter.

There is of course a monastery deep up in the woods, dangerously near Mt. Lassen.  They make and sell bees wax candles and honey.  Pretty cool!

Of course, there are apples.  We got a nice bag of Spitzenbergs, and a baked apple pie.

I didn't know about this local guy selling garden seeds, but he was at the festival.  I'll be buying from him from now on.  Send him some business if you want, and if you do, tell him CW sent you!  Support the local guy!

Great rural/small town fun.  We'll be back next year for sure.

I wouldn't have left the Manton Apple Festival without a jug from the Monks and the Lemurians both. Yummy.

  4. Many thanks for this CW. The Fall Fairs are all big events here in the Ottawa Valley. It's nice to see the kids raised on local farms showing their animals, vegetables, baked goods and crafts. Also nice to see the Bros. of St. John Orthodox featured. The Fall Fairs are something we do not celebrate enough. Steve_in_Ottawa.

  5. What fun!!! I participated in a weekly farmers market in my community selling my hand-made functional pottery. I love meeting and greeting the locals.

  7. It's important to get people of all ages, especially young'ns introduced to fall festivals. Here in south central PA, there's a bunch of them in all our local counties. We're headed to the Sherman's Valley Heritage Days on the 13th in Blain, Pa. Huge flea mkt, homemade food of all types, civil war and mountain-man reenactors, and a tractor parade at noon on Sunday. Yeah, well over a hundred antique tractors and equipment. BTW, church service with bluegrass hymns included. What a way to spend a day!
Thanks for the post, CW! Looks like you had a great time!

  8. We attended the West Virginia Forest Festival this weekend. Much the same - small mountain town America. Parade, old cars, high school marching bands, lots of happy fun stuff for the kids, arts & crafts, and just good clean fun, and much much more. There are still places that make America amazing. Cheers to all! -Brewer96

    1. Yeah, you really have to get out of the libtard-contolled cities in order to get back to reality.

  11. 50 bucks for HALF a bushel!?!?! WTF is wrong w/ you people... Jesus.
I got a 40lb box for $48 from a local farmer just last week. Paying less than half what you do. Get out of that shithole for God's sake. You're supporting it, ya know? If productive people left the state, it would bankrupt itself quicker than it already is.
