  5. RNLI is a private, non-governmental, organization that performs most of the lifesaving portion of USCG.

    Some paid staff but mostly volunteers. Somewhat analogous to volunteer fire departments in the US.

    Interesting organization with an interesting history

    Many of the USCG rescue boats are built to RNLI designs and specs.
