And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
They were all 2WD tho. I bought one to replace the severely rusted body of mine, and it was a pretty straight-forward swap. Just had to cut a hole into the firewall for the steering column, everything else bolted right up......
They came with DANA 35 front diffs, swapped mine out from a V8 Scout, and the slant 4 engine which ain't too bad except, decent milage, put a 304 in it, better plowing rig that way than as stock. Get lot of offers to sell it, was never many of them then when the all rotted out like all the Scouts, they where hardly worth scrap weight, so most are long gone now, but you could buy them up in NH back then, with a Myers plow, for $150-$350, bought a few for parts,. Its really too bad cause the Scouts where really decent trucks, they put decent components in them, and they are laid out in a nice track to weight bias, gives them excellent traction. Can't kill those IH V8 engines.
Back in the 80's I had a boss who had a V8 Scout that he only used for hunting. He replaced a rear axle every other year. No mods except the largest tire that would fit in the stock frame.
Had one just like this when I lived in Wyoming in the early 80s. 4 banger with saddle tanks and not a speck of rust anywhere. God, I wish I still had it!
When I was in High School , we were friends with the contract mail delivery guy who delivered out our way. He had a RHD Scout that was 4 WD. He hired me to do a clutch job in it. The next year he bought a RHD with an Automatic and 2WD. The old only came out on snowy days. I always thought the design team for International were the same bunch that designed their refrigerators (yes they made them too).
Reminds me of the summer of 1963 and an old friend's dad had a Scout that we'd ride around in.
ReplyDeleteRH Drive? Old mail truck maybe?
