And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The Targa Florio was not for the weak-hearted. Most of the crashes occurred during "practice", because there was no practice. The roads were open: Vespas, FIATs, donkeys, livestock, and the drivers needed to run the 45 mile course hard enough to know it for the actual race.
I remember a very old R&T P.S. on the last page with a Ferrari is a similar situation and the caption went like this, “‘Good tires,” Bob mused, casually lighting a cigarette, “but certainly not great tires"
I just used that word a few minutes ago when trying to explain to a guy that thinks that the Earth doesn't spin and he can prove it because a plumb Bob remains straight
