  2. The Targa Florio was not for the weak-hearted. Most of the crashes occurred during "practice", because there was no practice. The roads were open: Vespas, FIATs, donkeys, livestock, and the drivers needed to run the 45 mile course hard enough to know it for the actual race.

  3. I remember a very old R&T P.S. on the last page with a Ferrari is a similar situation and the caption went like this, “‘Good tires,” Bob mused, casually lighting a cigarette, “but certainly not great tires"
