Wealth

  1. Apples are the very best. Eaten fresh, cold and crisp, in a pie, in sauce, and I think that the Honey Crisp is the king of apples.

  2. If you ever get to the Northeastern US during apple harvest (October), try a McGouan ("Mick-GOW-ann"). They are a cosmic experience. Most apples are kept in controlled-oxygen (C-Ox) environments for storage longevity - they seal the warehouse then burn off nearly all the oxygen, leaving the air inside CO2 rich. The apples you buy are varieties that withstand this treatment and are still good enough to consume throughout the year. McGouans don't, apparently - they only get sold when fresh, for eating. Unbelievably good.
