  2. That's why old school hot rods used solid axle setups. However, I've shattered a ring gear on a Mopar 8 & 3/4 positrac differential with a 440 magnum launch. I've seen u-joints fail catastrophically and drive shafts twist in two. All sorts of bad stuff can happen when you dump 400+ horsepower all at once.

    1. when a clutch blows up on a manual transmission, the shrapnel can be pretty bad too - which is why smart car builders and drivers put a containment blanket around the bell housing.

  3. That is the weak Mercedes diff. There is a company that makes a larger and stronger version.

  4. Funny, I never had that problem with my old Morris Minor, though I often had pedal to the metal!
