Oroville Dam building - back when Californians knew how to build things! Finished this monster a year ahead of schedule!
Such a project would be inconceivable now. Just look at the fate of the stillborn Auburn Dam. The cameo appearance by then Governor Ronald Reagan made me ache for a better time and a much better culture.

They should've placed a giant sluice-box at the tail end of that giant excavator. I would imagine that the gold deposits retrieved during the excavation would likely have paid of the total cost of construction.
ReplyDeleteSure, it would've obviously slowed down construction, but it very likely would have been a win-win proposition for the State.
