SEOUL — North Korea said Monday that it had “completely scrapped” the 1953 armistice agreement that ended the Korean War, following up on a threat made days earlier and increasing the prospect of a strike against or a skirmish with the South, analysts said.
And now, the NORKS have severed the "hotline" between them and the south. Significant? Ask Admiral Locklear III...
To add to the idiocy, we have this statement from the commander of all our military resources in the Pacific Theater:
Navy Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III, in an interview at a Cambridge hotel Friday after he met with scholars at Harvard and Tufts universities, said significant upheaval related to the warming planet “is probably the most likely thing that is going to happen . . . that will cripple the security environment, probably more likely than the other scenarios we all often talk about.’’
“People are surprised sometimes,” he added, describing the reaction to his assessment. “You have the real potential here in the not-too-distant future of nations displaced by rising sea level.
So our head man in the Pacific thinks the biggest military challenge is going to be rising sea levels? This from an admiral?
Clearly this guy is more interested in honing his chances of promotion, and has his finger on the political pulse of Washington. Too bad he isn't concerned with, I dunno, the Chinese and the Japanese fighting over the Senkaku Islands, or the North Koreans renouncing their peace treaty with the South Koreans. Better to worry about the sea levels rising due to Al Gore's fantasy doomsday scenario.
My favorite "Team America" memes, just to add a little levity to a serious situation:
