Hey man, it's April! From this picture of Yosemite Valley, it could be December. When I loaded the kids in the car, it was 36 degrees warm, not what one would expect for this time of the year in California.
Scientists in Columbia have discovered several new frog species in the jungles there, one of which they have dubbed the "Simpsons" frog, pictured here. He/she/it is a real sweetie, dontcha think?

In Japan, ancient monuments, some more than 600 years old, admonish their future countrymen to learn from the disasters of the past:

"High dwellings are the peace and harmony of our descendants. Remember the calamity of the great tsunamis. Do not build any homes below this point."

Looks as if the wisdom of ages past has been ignored, unfortunately.

A picture is said to be worth a thousand words, and depending on how you crop it, every one of those words could be a lie.

Tuesday morning - bleh!

Last Sunday night late the youngest daughter and I went out in a hunt for some cool nighttime shots of the starry sky. The following is a scene of a rural gateway, with the stars and a few clouds in the background. The streak in the lower sky is a passing airplane.

This is a starry nighttime view of the land about four miles from home, and to the east, which I think turned out pretty well.

A little Mars information early on an earthly Tuesday morning.

The size difference between out home planet and the red planet is well illustrated here.

From the Opportunity rover, a view of the Martian surface with a dust devil spinning away, just like on our own planet.

Another view of the martian landscape.

An excellent visual illustration of the current national fiscal issue.
