And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

That's an EMC (Electro Motive Corporation, I think) model FT. The 5400HP is for four units coupled together, throttles, brakes, etc. all connected; one locomotive of four units (and one crew). EMC became EMD of General Motors. (D for Division) The Boston and Maine was using the FT on the east coast. The FT helped to get us through the war. Our army and navy did great jobs, but it was our industrial homeland that really won the war.
As The Old Guy says the picture shows an FT cab. To get 5,400hp you have to couple four 1,350hp units together (a forward facing cab, two boosters in the middle and a rearward facing cab) all controlled by one crew in the whichever cab is facing forward. I've been seeing a lot of Kodachrome photos lately. I think you get much better color reproduction with it than you do digital.
