  2. Looks like one of the Hetch Hetchy penstocks for moving water from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir in the Sierra to San Francisco.

  7. My son is a mechanical engineer and designs / builds / repairs hydro schemes among other generating things. He says you do not want to be anywhere near those tubes when they fill. They are dangerous at all times and violent in the extreme if things go wrong. That said, I have a standing booking to go inside one with him one day.
