And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

When I was a young man we would fly instruments across the Poe all the way from Vicenza to Lavorno for calibration. Some mornings when the valley was socked in with fog, the only thing you could see above the fog was church steeples. They lined up perfectly for miles in multiple directions. We all assumed they were like that so they could signal other villages like some ancient telegraph system. Perhaps not, but that was how my feeble military mind worked at the time. Eod1sg Ret
