Classic Americana

  1. There used to be (maybe still is) a diner on the MO / AR border called, appropriately enough, The Borderline Cafe. Starting in the early 1960s, and extending to the mid- 1970s, my family tradition was to stop there on our travels from SC to MO to visit my mom's parents during summer vacation. That tabletop jukebox selector, that milkshake served as shown in the picture, that hamburger and fries, all of that is just like I remember. The only thing missing is the piece of blueberry pie to top it off.
    Good times those days were.

  3. I remember when that meal was about $1.50, but now (if you can find it) it would cost at least $15.00.

    Where'd the other $13.50 go?

  4. I remember that there would have been an ashtray, a chrome plated napkin dispenser, and the ketchup would not have a flip lid and be squeezable.
It's been a very long time since I saw a diner with the tabletop jukebox.
