Broham Castle, Cumbria, England.

Arrow Loop high in the fortress tower. The inner stones of the looped cross are chamfered, which gives the defending garrison an additional angle for attacking attackers on the battlefield below.

It was erected by Robert de Vipon at the beginning of the XIII century on the site of the Roman Fort Brocavum.

  1. Has about 60 degrees of traverse, but the enemy has a 3 inch wide slit to aim at.

  2. Folks back then were good at killing and surviving. Lot more than us moderns give them credit for. Mid-Evil history is pretty amazing, so many inventions and ideas, was no "dark ages" about them, they be full of life and intelligence.
