And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly at the 28th Annual Academy Awards rehearsals March 1956.
It's only cause the studios had better publicity & media control in those days. People can appear classy & beautiful in Current Year, and our host posts plenty of proof. Smartphones & social media are the hammer that shattered the illusion of Hollywood being beautiful, classy, and smart, and it's the movie stars themselves who picked it up & did the deed. I for one applaud this move.
Back in the day before "Hollyweird" allowed actors and actresses to "speak their mind" and way before massive body ink, face piercings, "enhanced" lips and Kool Aid hair.
Seems like people here admire class only to turn around and vote for the most classless person to ever run for office. It is one of those mysteries of life.
It's a mystery of life to me people can't control their own thoughts and they let some guy they hate so much live rent-free in their heads. No one here invoked that guy by image or name, yet you somehow conjured him up thru a word association-game.
When I was a wee lad, and messing with my first camera, I read a short book on how to take good pictures. They talked about composition: don't take pictures where it looks like a tree is growing out of someone's head. Don't create distracting visual anomalies.
How is this a good picture? It makes Miss Hepburn look like a double arm amputee. This negative should have been burned.
Yep, Grace Kelly's left arm. I thought there was something off about Audrey's face. AI slop. That so messed up. We so want to believe our eyes that we miss the unreality markers.
I can *just* make out a black glove on Audrey's right hand, so I'm guessing that that's why her hands and arms appear to be missing. They blend in with her dress too well. As for Grace, it looks like she's sitting on her hands.
Back when Hollywood actresses were attractive.
ReplyDeleteAnd the media was, in general, less intrusive and abusive.
DeleteThat was my first thought - "Man, movie stars were so classy and beautiful back then."

No mystery at all, look at what the alternative was and is.

DeleteThere's always got to be one.
DeleteYeah, but she didn’t win
DeleteI agree, that Biden guy somehow got 81 million votes living in his basement and sniffing kids.
DeleteBeautiful ladies
ReplyDeleteThat is a whole lot of Beautiful packed into a small spot.

Then again it might be the printing. A bad case of contrast & bringing up the highlights.
DeleteThey were both 29 years old here, arguably when a woman's beauty is never better.

I never knew both were amputees. Hmm.
