And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There's a story that NASA managers hated the Crew Dragon controls because the "emergency backup" wasn't a joystick and made them put one in - and now they're repeating the objections to the lunar lander that SpaceX is building (the Human Landing System - HLS).
The argument that in times of real crisis, it's best to be as familiar as possible so that it's as reliable as possible, makes sense, but it also kind of says they don't trust the "best of the best" astronauts to learn a new system.
But only one tech level has landed men on the moon.
