  2. It's no wonder K-Mart went out of business with these incredibly cheap meals.

  3. Nowadays people would look at a meal under $2 with lots of suspicion about food safety or content ("does that Salsbury steak moo or meow?").

    1. I am pretty sure that today, most people would look at a $10 meal as suspicious.

  4. They used to make 6" subs that were the bomb - nice balance of meat, veg, and bread. And, it didn't get soggy by the time you got to the car. Plus, their cherry slushes were good too...

    2. Latter half of 60's was the same, that was of course after the purchase of
beer and art supplies, my $17 dollar a week allowance didn't allow much for
food. If not for Krystal and 10 cent hamburgers I would probably have. starved.

  6. Had an after-school job delivering furniture about that time. Was making $3.50 an hour. Those prices were "normal" and I would have debated spending that kind of money on food.

  8. A good paying job, I was making $5.35 then. The lowest price shown was 20% of my hourly wage.

    1. Entry level McDonalds employees make $11-17 per hour depending on location. A Bigmac meal is $9-13. That is 75-80% of the hourly wage...

And people wonder why young people are not happy with the country. We had it good but also made it horrible for our kids and grandkids

  9. I never had a sub sandwich that was as good as the Kmart subs were.

  10. Adjusted for inflation, $1.00 in 1977 is equal to $5.57 in 2026.
But with that said. At Wally World a Banquet TV Salisbury Steak dinner sells for $1.89 .

But! Nowhere near the taste or quality.
