  4. Nowadays people would look at a meal under $2 with lots of suspicion about food safety or content ("does that Salsbury steak moo or meow?").

    1. I am pretty sure that today, most people would look at a $10 meal as suspicious.

  5. They used to make 6" subs that were the bomb - nice balance of meat, veg, and bread. And, it didn't get soggy by the time you got to the car. Plus, their cherry slushes were good too...

  6. In college (latter half of 70's) I could easily survive a week on $10, many times on $5.

    1. My weekly grocery bill at a married college student from 1969 - 1971 was $20 per week.

  7. Had an after-school job delivering furniture about that time. Was making $3.50 an hour. Those prices were "normal" and I would have debated spending that kind of money on food.

  9. A good paying job, I was making $5.35 then. The lowest price shown was 20% of my hourly wage.
