Cessna 185 - New Zealand

  1. Sweet. Like a good woods axe, a short barrel lever gun, a trusty pistola, a loyal sensual woman, a faithful dawg, an older reliable model 4WD pick-up.

  3. Once upon a time, a long time ago, I had done a whole bunch of work on a 185 in the course of an annual inspection including a top cylinder overhaul and a paint job which entailed removing, rebalancing, and re-installing all the control surfaces. When it came time for the test flight the pilot, a former FAC pilot and Viet Nam vet, pointed at me and pointed at the right seat. I got in and I gotta tell ya, that guy could handle that plane. That was the one and only time I've been in a backwards tail slide.

  4. Did't know anyone other than gummint could fly a plane in a communist country. Old pic maybe before the Covid hoax?

    1. We're not there yet but globalists are working on it. I suspect It won't be an old pic but may be pre covid as that was recent - I tried to search the rego but it costs and takes time so didn't bother.
We were landing on beaches in south Westland back in the 1950's using Austers and Tiger Moths amongst other light aircraft. A Cessna was new, expensive and flash back then but they were better so eventually replaced the English stuff. Down where the photo was taken you learned from local experts or you came unstuck. There's been quite a few missing aircraft over the years including a Corsair - its very steep, tough country and heavily forested with deep lakes which hide evidence. These features combined with challenging weather means you need to be on your game.
