  2. Covered bridges are covered because they're made of wood, so..... Surprised to see a covered bridge rated to 44 tons.

    1. That’s because it’s been modernized with steel beams underneath. This is pretty much required these days because people are so stupid.
      We have a lot of old iron and steel bridges here in Hunterdon County nj. Many are very well maintained and nearly original, hidden away on narrow back roads. The ones on heavy traffic roads all have major modern support underneath and are little more than show pieces.
