And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That's First St in my home town of Fort Myers FL. I used to have an office just to the right of the Franklin Arms Hotel sign back in the 70's. That view is looking east and the building on the left is the court house and a large Woolworth's is on the immediate right. It looks all diff down there now after many instances of downtown redevelopments.
Absolutely right. Franklin Arms Hotel, Fort Myers FL, circa 1960. Corner of First St and Jackson, looking NE past the Art Center (the columns) on the left.
'54, I think. Someone help me. We had several Oldses until they quit making them. Cutlasses until they got little, then 88's. My wife had a '68 Cutlass when we got married. It showed me that a car didn't have to have a 390 to git.
A couple of years younger, think '56. The hooded headlights weren't a thing until then. And the Olds is part of the tri-five generation of GM shoe-box design.
That pik is from the late 50's and it WAS safe and happy, then. Then, in the 70's integration was forced on everybody and the place became infested with you know what.
Just 2 blocks to the right of that pik the Lee County School Administrator was stabbed to death in the parking lot by a kracked up negro.
You put your life at risk in that area now a days.
Take me back to the simpler times. I don't believe those days are gone forever, but I do believe we are gonna have to fight to the death to see them return, and to he!! will anyone that want's the kind of world we have now.
Such a terrible hellscape. There's NO diversity! How did they endure?!?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of Santa Monica in the 60's.

Before I realized that it was an old photo, I thought it was maybe a recent photo taken in Havanna.
