And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
"Where at least I know I'm free...." How anyone can hear that and NOT puke is beyond me. First, the presumption that we are actually FREE is laughable, and that the standard would be lowered SO MUCH, that everything else could be wrong, so long as one thinks they are free. One of the worst songs ever written in "praise" of America, and worse that it has been so embraced by so many.
At one point this was a misguided song about American greatness. Greenwood turned it into a partisan anthem for a fistful of dollars and don't even get me started on the bibles. Those of you who think Greenwood is a "true patriot" the genuinely loves America should listen to God Bless Canada
