And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I've got a real USA made 8" Wilton vise that I bought new around 1990. If I remember right, I paid just under $300 for it. They used to be blue and have a back end that was shaped like a bullet. Quality, thru and thru.
These Chinese jobs just look junky to me. And for $330? No way.
I have two Ridgid vises. The jaws on the one in the shop wore out and Ridgid does not make vises any longer. They have built in jaws which is good for whaling the crap out of something while being held tight in the vice. Finally found another vise with built in jaws though the name escapes me at the moment. Vises with replaceable jaws just won't take being hammered on without shearing the retaining screws or at the least wrecking the threads. And, a lot of six inch vises only open four inches. My new six inch vise opens over eight inches.
Just realized I've got three different sized vices down in the basement I haven't used in ages (haven't used my vices in the bedroom in a while either). I should find someone that could use them, two of them were my fathers. All made in USA.
Better get one quick. “The country of origin of this vise is China.”
ReplyDeleteLet's see. $330 plus a 145% tariff brings the grand total to $808.50. Yikes!
DeleteThese tariffs will be a real gut punch to Harbor Freight.
