  2. For four days in a row, I surfed above a solid mat composed of thousands of rays. They were about five feet below the surface, but the clarity of the water had it looking like mere inches.

  3. The best is when seaside ignorantii see a group near the surface, and their black wingtips poke up above the surface, and they immediately and loudly proclaim "Sharks!"

    The looks on their faces when you jump in and snorkel amongst the rays as they gracefully hover up plankton is priceless.

  4. Back in 1967, when I was a US Marine training for "wet landing" at Camp Pendleton, we saw a mass migration of sting rays off the side of our US Navy transport vessel while steaming off the coast of So California.
