And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I realize that it was probably historically impossible, but I always thought that putting the Capitol of the British Empire (or just the United Kingdom) on the Isle of Man would be both convenient for all concerned, and nicely symbolic. Very centralized, easily accessible, and presumably easily defended.
That said, I know nothing about the climate or topography of the Isle, so there might be practical reasons why that would've been a bad idea.
