And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That's a beautiful rifle. A couple years ago I went to an auction of the estate of a fellow who was an avid gun collector. Avid, in this case, could also be rabid, insane or any other superlative you could dream up. The depth and breadth of this guy's collection was simply amazing. I went hoping to snag a Ruger #1, having a soft spot for them as I used a borrowed one in .243 many, many years ago to bag my first deer. There were several to be had. The ones in ordinary Western hunting calibers went for right about $2500 each. Out of my range. Now here's where it gets interesting - there were a couple in safari calibers; a .416 Rigby if I remember right, and another one in some metric caliber 10xmumblemumble. Rare, desirable, right ? To the amazement of the auctioneers and me, these went in the 7 to 8 hundred dollar range. I wasn't interested as I have a safari rifle gathering dust in the safe already, and I guess everybody else did, too.
It will do the job that it was built to do. They say that some of them will be needed in Virginia.
ReplyDeleteI think that a good supply of .5 inch hemp rope, properly applied will solve Virginia's problems just fine, LL.

ReplyDeleteNeed some fast horses to go with that rope, Paul. Drag them down Main Street. Old school.
ReplyDeleteMark P.: I was thinking more of a rope/tree combination.
