And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Need to mount something like this on the deck - for repelling boarders, don't you know!
Large sailing vessels used to carry these little cannons to announce their arrival to the harbormaster.
If I recall correctly it has a 2" bore (or so) and with a tight wad it is quite loud. With a load of shot or nails packed tight between two such wads would make zombie salad in short order with close quarters.
There is a veritable taxonomy to your shipboard naval guns. If I'm not mistaken, that one there is actually a 'culvern' and would be loaded with grape shot. Very, very nasty weapon. There's and order to them too...and if I recall, from smallest to largest, it's
