And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The Flying Barrel
The Saab 29, popularly called Flygande tunnan (“The Flying Barrel”), was a Swedish fighterdesigned and manufactured by Saab in the 1950s. It was Sweden’s second turbojet-powered combat aircraft, the first being the Saab 21R. Despite its rotund appearance, the J 29 was fast and agile, serving effectively in both fighter and fighter-bomber roles into the 1970s.
Laughably round.

sort of a TBF Avenger with a ramjet engine.
ReplyDeleteEffective against what exactly? Was Sweden in some secret war nobody never heard of?
ReplyDeleteFor Sweden, it's effective if their armed forces deter some other power from invading. In the last few hundred years, that's been the Russians and Nazi Germany. Ask the Finns how much fun it is to live next to avaricious and well armed neighbors.
