The seventeen year old and I took a drive up over Carson and Monitor Passes to see how things were up on the east side. Weather was cool, and a few raindrops pattered down on the windshield. The aspen are just now starting to turn yellow, and the streams are at their fall low flow point.
Antelope Valley stretches out below and to the east of Monitor Pass here.
After a drive down dirt roads, we found a secluded spot to try a little target practice with the rimfires.
Below is the world's best looking Ruger Single Nine.
Looking west toward Reynolds Peak, I believe. Rain showers coming this way. Some of the aspens are yellowing up, but by far most are still green.
Red Lake and Hawkins Peak gleam in the setting sun. Soon there will be a pile of snow here, in only a month or so.
Leviathan Peak, with it's fire lookout, surrounded by sage and pinyon pine.
All in all, a great day out in the weeds, followed by dinner at our favorite Basque restaurant in Gardnerville, Nevada. What a memorable way to spend a Saturday.
A great day in God's country.
ReplyDeleteIt's God's country indeed.
DeleteGorgeous pictures, CW.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chickenmom! It's hard to take a bad one surrounded by such scenery.
DeleteYea, beautiful photographs! I wonder how the scenery looks in a month? Autumn is pretty bland here (but that is because I live in a city now).
ReplyDeleteIn a month the possibility of snow is there, and the aspens will be on fire. The air will be cool during the day, and downright cold at night. In other words, perfect!
DeleteSounds perfect indeed. I hope you get an opportunity to post a pic or two of that.
DeleteI'm totally jealous and yes that is a sweet little Ruger
ReplyDeleteIt is a sweet one. The kid and I had a great time shooting that and the little SR22 we brought along. Firearms are so much fun.
DeleteGorgeous country! Breathtaking!
