Via History Blog, a fascinating story about a brick making company mining in Britain, and in the process uncovering a bronze age village buried 13 feet deep, and preserved beautifully in the anaerobic clay.  Included is a least six, so far, long boats carved out of whole oak or ash trees.

In addition, they have uncovered a whole community centered around a small river and swampy islands, which were connected by wooden platforms.

Bronze spearheads suggest that all was not peaceful in the area, and in fact some of the platforms are burned, perhaps in conflict.

Also preserved are more prosaic things, such as a bowl of nettle soup with the soup still in there.

An unbelievable look into the into a pre Roman community 3000 years old.
