Yma Sumac, a descendant of Atahualpa, the last Incan emperor, 1950s


Zoila Augusta Emperatriz Chávarri del Castillo was born on either September 13, 1922, or September 10, 1923, most likely in Callao, a seacoast city in Peru; but according to herself in Ichocán, an Andean village.  Her parents were Sixto Chávarri and Emilia Castillo. Her father was born in Cajamarca and her mother was born in Pallasca. Stories published in the 1950s claimed that she was an Incan princess, directly descended from Atahualpa. The government of Peru in 1946 formally supported her claim to be descended from Atahualpa, the last Incan emperor."

She was better known as a famous soprano. In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music.
Sumac became an international success based on her extreme vocal range, which was said to be "well over five octaves" or otherwise was claimed to span over five octaves, at the peak of her singing career. Sumac recorded an extraordinarily wide vocal range of 5 octaves, 3 notes and a semitone ranging from E2 to B7 (approximately 107 Hz to 3.7 kHz).  In one live recording of "Chuncho", she sings a range of over four and a half octaves, from B1 to F#7. She was able to sing notes in the low baritone register as well as notes above the range of an ordinary soprano & notes in the Whistle Register. Both low and high extremes can be heard in the song Chuncho (The Forest Creatures) (1953). She was also apparently able to sing in an eerie "double voice".

The Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite Valley - apparently must change it's name







The Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park will be renamed the "Majestic Yosemite Hotel" because of a trademark dispute with park vendor DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, Inc.

Never!  It will always be the Ahwahnee.

The orders to change the traditional (and apparently trademarked) names of hotels and other attractions in the area comes following a change in Yosemite's concessions operator. When the now former operator, Delaware North, was beaten out by Aramark for a new contract, which begins in March, the company revealed that it had trademarked the names of some of the area's most iconic destinations, including the Ahwahnee Hotel, the Wawona Hotel, Curry Village, and the Badger Pass Ski Area.

Your fun fact of the day: Jupiter is so massive that rather than orbiting the Sun, they both orbit a point in space between them.

In the case of the Earth and the Sun, both bodies orbit around the very center of the mass (similar to center of gravity) between them. This point is called the "barycenter." 
Earth and the Sun are "connected" by the gravity pulling them together. It's just like the light end and heavy end of the sledge hammer. Compared to the size of the Sun, though, Earth is about like a flea on a cat! So the center of mass between the Earth and the Sun is almost—but not quite—the very center of the Sun.
Jupiter, on the other hand, is 318 times as massive as Earth. Therefore, the barycenter of Jupiter and the Sun is a bit further from the Sun's center. So, as Jupiter revolves around the Sun, the Sun itself is actually revolving around this slightly off-center point, located just outside its surface. So, they actually rotate somewhat like this:
