And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Back when Obama was running for president, I heard a lot of positive comment on his promise to "reach across the aisle," and to tone down the partisanship. Nobody I heard this from could offer an explanation as to how this amazing thing was going to be accomplished by literally the most liberal member of congress with the most radical associations of any serious candidate since Eugene Debs, if he was elected president.
That didn't matter because everyone just liked him so much.
Now we see that what we should have expected to have happened has indeed happened. Obama is the most polarizing politician to occupy the White House in decades.
Hope and change just got flushed.
