In Australia, a farmer discovered these fossil footprints of the extinct animal Diprotodon, a rhinoceros sized wombat type of creature. It is believed this animal might well be the source of the aboriginal people's belief in a dangerous and monstrous creature that lives in swampy areas that they call the Bunyip, through a kind of ancestral memory of a being now long extinct.
Hah! Back in the 50s in Philadelphia, the puppet character that introduced the cartoons was Bertie the Bunyip. Sounbds Aujstralian, doesn't it?
