And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Reminds me of the time a smart-mouth city slicker visited us on the farm, and proclaimed, 'no animal is as tough as I am, even that furry Ram with the horns!' It got the Ram's attention, I ran for the Gate, knowing we couldn't get it open fast enough, and barely reached the top of the big gate, when the whole thing shook like an earthquake, and Mr. smarty-pants-kid got nailed in the rear by this big fluffy Ram. That day, I saw a fellow 6 year old cry like he'd just been born.
