And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
When my father enlisted in February of 1941 (before Pearl Harbor) he was assigned to a field artillery company equipped with French 75’s. They later got 105’s. He went from Normandy (June 7) through the Battle of the Bulge unharmed..
The Kaiser's Feldartillerie took pity upon him and drenched the position with high explosives, phosgene and sulphur mustard. He is unavailable for comment.
