And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There are many forests in Europe with WWII weapons embedded in trees. Most notable is the Nevsky Pyatachok in Russia. Others are on the Polish/German border.
I wonder if an American patriot, during the Revolutionary War, hid his musket in a tree and forgot that it was there... or worse, he hid it and then died without telling anyone about it.
There's a museum in Cody, Wyoming dedicated to finds such as this, The Dug Up Gun Museum. Not as famous or as comprehensive as the more famous gun museum up the street but they reign supreme in their particular niche.
