  3. I think the white dots on the wife's garments are elk "ivories" that were highly valued. Elk only have two of these, so her dress decorations show the harvest of a whole lot of elk.

  6. No relation of mine, despite the name. My family story of an Indian ancestor was Ojibwa, not Sioux.
