In Maine sheep are released on offshore islands in spring to graze for the entire summer.

  1. This is really a "remnant" activity. Not a lot of this going on today. If you are into conservation, islands where this activity occurs won't have any of their original conifers, unless it's just a few sheep on a island.

  2. They did that in outer Boston harbor in the Revolutionary days.
    The tyrant guvner sent a company of troops to the islands to collect the grazing tax.
