And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Alzado attended a small college in South Dakota (Yankton State). He was the roommate of one of my bosses, Kenny Michaelson. My boss told me about a time when the two of them went out into the woods, got drunk and played "Robin Hood and Little John." They stood on a log that was suspended over a creek holding large poles. Lyle admitted that Kenny smacked him hard enough to make him fall into a creek. Many years later, a reporter asked Lyle, after he began a boxing career, if anyone had ever kicked his ass. Lyle said on the air, "Yeah, Kenny Michaelson knocked the $hit out of me once."
