And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? yeah, having restored a '52, people forget about all the comforts we had back then, stuff that'll keep you alert behind the wheel. Modern things we lacked, like: a. Power Steering & a tight turning radius. b. Shock Absorbers in the rear. c. Air Conditioning. d. Syncromesh Transmission (double clutching, no fast shifting). e. Power Brakes, Disk Brakes (standing on the brake, was a real thing). f. Electric Wiper Motors (Vacuum wipers didn't like COLD, climbing hills, towing heavy loads). g. Adjustable, Split Row Seats (OK, everyone ready - lean forward & pull). h. Insulation (for heat/cold & NOISE). i. Heater controls for defrost/heat, recirculate. j. Key Starter, High Beam control on the steering column. k. Automatic/Engine Conveniences (Cruise Control, Temperature, Carb. Choke, Electric Fuel Pump, Block Heaters, Air Filters that didn't require oil, PCV, Spin On Oil Filters, (if it had one at all), Turn Signals in the Rear, a Radio, Seats that didn't make you sweat.
There's a reason why driving 300 miles in a day was exhausting & slow, hard on the body, aside from the roadways so rough (compared to today). Driving was 'real work', took arm & leg strength.
Yeah, but unless you blew the main or cam bearings just about anything could be fixed with a screwdriver or a crescent wrench in about 15 minutes, so there's that.
Took me months to find the battery on my wife's late model car.
