And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Got to swim with whale sharks once off Cancun. Amazing to swim next to a bus-sized creature you know isn't hungry for you or would kill you for the lulz. Got a few degrees closer than this photographer did, saw down the things' mouth into the darkness. Manta rays just sorta puff open like you push the short ends of an envelope and their digestive tract is as white as their underbelly.
It was the early 1990's and my dive buddy, Billy Johnston, and I were out of a ponga (small dive boat) in the Gulf of California near La Paz, Mexico. I had just jumped into the water and was headed down the anchor line at about 40 feet when the pretty young lady that was my dive partner began screaming into her breathing mouthpiece. When I looked over at her, she was pointing up. Not 20 feet above us a massive whale shark was leisurely swimming above us!!! It had to have been 40 or 50 feet long!!! What a thrill. And by the way, it just kept swimming away.
Almost jumped on one from our dinghi while on a excursion in the Maldives. Incredible experience - one point off the bucket list. Now for "real" whales....
