And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Just out of curiosity, "Wilt the Stilt" chamberlain was 7' 1". Andre the Giant was 7' 4". Arnold was 6' 2". Taller than average, but not in their world.
Back in the middle 1980's, I was a buyer for a large department store in Philadelphia. One of my salesmen invited me to his golf club to hit some balls on the driving range. As we finished up and were walking into the golf club for a beer, this very tall black man walked out of the club heading for the driving range. My head was parallel to his belt buckle. I looked up and sure enough, this elegantly dressed man was "Wilt the Stilt" Chamberland. I was impressed!!!
When some are truly larger IN life than life. Screen presence is a bit differing when you meet the person in real life, Tom Cruise is something like 5’8” but did pull off a decent Reacher on screen. Met Arnold once in the mid-80’s, surprisingly a little shorter than my 6’2” self, but super friendly and approachable.
That photo was from the set of Conan the Destroyer. Arnie was Conan, Wilt was a character that was eventually a bad guy, and I think Andre was inside the rubber suit for a big monster fight.

ReplyDeleteAndre retired to Ellerbe, NC, where his wife was from. Client owned a sock mill there, became friends with him. Lucky guy.
